MileIQ vs Driversnote: which suits you?

Both are dedicated mileage trackers that record drives on their own and produce a log for HMRC. The real differences are the free limit, the price and whether you are one driver or a team. Compared from their own UK pages on 14 October 2026.

Which one should you pick?

Pick MileIQ if you drive for work up to 40 times a month and want it free, or you want one simple paid plan.

Pick Driversnote if you run a small team and want one mileage logbook for several drivers.

Want more than mileage? Odomint records drives and works out the claim too, and keeps your MOT and tax dates, service history, fuel prices and family sharing in the same app. It is iPhone only, with a 7-day free trial.

What the free limits mean in practice

A drive is one journey, so a return trip is two. If you drive to a client and back most working days, that is around 40 journeys a month: the whole of MileIQ’s free plan, and well past Driversnote’s 15.

If you drive for work a few times a month, either free plan may be enough. If you drive for work every day, budget for a paid plan in whichever you choose, and compare the price over a year rather than a month.

What HMRC needs from either app

For each business journey: the date, where you started and finished, why you went and the miles. Both apps record the journey for you, and you add the purpose.

From 6 April 2026 HMRC’s approved rate is 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the tax year and 25p after. Check the rate set in whichever app you use, especially if you have used it since before April.
