Odomint vs MileIQ: an honest comparison

MileIQ is a well known, dedicated mileage tracker with a free plan of 40 drives a month. Odomint is newer, and built around a different idea: the mileage claim and the rest of running a car belong in one app. Here is how they compare, checked on 14 October 2026.

Where MileIQ wins

[1]
A free plan.

40 drives a month for free, on its UK pricing page. Odomint’s tracker needs Premium once the 7-day trial ends.

[2]
A little cheaper month to month.

£9.49 a month against Odomint’s £9.99, if you would rather not pay for a year up front.

[3]
Mileage and nothing else.

If a mileage log is all you want, a dedicated tracker has nothing else to look past.

Where Odomint wins

[1]
The whole car, not just the miles.

MOT and tax dates from the DVLA and DVSA with reminders weeks ahead, every MOT result since 2005, service history, documents and live fuel prices, in the same app as your claim.

[2]
Less over a year.

Premium is £59.99 a year. MileIQ Unlimited billed annually is £7.91 a month on its UK pricing page, which is £94.92 a year.

[3]
Your drives stay on your phone.

The record of everywhere you drive is not uploaded to our servers, and every drive has a delete button.

[4]
Your rate, not only HMRC’s.

Use 55p and 25p, tell it how many business miles you have already done this year, or set your own pence per mile if your employer pays a different rate.

[5]
Every drive, in detail.

Each drive on a map, with the time actually moving, the top speed held and where you stopped, plus a Car Wrapped story of your year.

[6]
The family, free.

Circles share cars, their dates and arrivals home with family, free for everyone in them.

Which one should you pick?

Pick MileIQ if you only want a mileage log, you drive for work fewer than 40 times a month, and you want it free.

Pick Odomint if you want the claim and everything else about the car in one place: MOT and tax, service history, fuel prices and family, with your drives kept on your phone.

Switching? Keep your MileIQ reports for past tax years, because HMRC can ask for them. Start Odomint from a clean date, like the 1st of a month, and run both for a week if you want to see the same drives turn up in each.

How the claim works in Odomint

Odomint notices when you start driving and records the drive without a button to press. When it ends, you mark it business or personal with one tap, and the claim adds itself up at HMRC’s approved rate: 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the tax year and 25p after.

If you have already driven business miles this tax year before you started, tell it how many and it starts at the right rate. If your employer pays a different rate, set your own. The total exports as a CSV for your accountant or your Self Assessment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best MileIQ alternative in the UK?

It depends what you want. For a mileage log alone, Driversnote is the other well known option, free for up to 15 trips a month. If you want the claim plus MOT, tax, service history and family sharing in one app, that is what Odomint is built for.

Is MileIQ free?

Its UK pricing page lists a free plan of 40 drives a month. Unlimited is £9.49 a month, or £7.91 a month billed annually.

Does Odomint use the 2026 HMRC rate?

Yes. 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in the tax year and 25p after, the rates from 6 April 2026. You can also set your own rate.

Can I move my MileIQ history into Odomint?

Not automatically. Keep your MileIQ export for past tax years and start recording in Odomint from today.
